LIME PUTTY
Lime is the oldest of the masonry binders, its use dating back to ancient times. Lime has been used in multiple different forms and varies chemically, depending on the source of the limestone or other materials from which it is produced.
Recommended For
INTERIOR and EXTERIOR surfaces.
There are three main applications:
· Lime Putty is mixed with water to produce a thick paste which is used to fill small holes and cracks.
· 1 part Lime Putty is mixed with 4 - 6 parts Silica Sand and water to produce a rendering for the repair of small plastered areas (<1m²).
· 1 part Lime Putty, 1 part cement and 6 - 8 parts sand and water are mixed together to produce a lime rich plaster for the plastering of large areas and whole elevations.
· In all cases the mix and quantity of water needs to be adjusted to achieve the correct and required consistency.
· Avoid applying in excessively hot/dry conditions as it may dry too quickly and result in cracks forming or become powdery. If these conditions are present mist spray
every few hours till cured.
Not Recommended For
Do not use on hard plaster and concrete.
Do not use in direct sunlight or on dry surfaces.
Application
Ensure all surfaces are sound and free of dirt, grease and oils. Rake out all cracks over 0,5mm in width, wet and then fill with Lime Putty.
Mix Lime Putty with water to produce a smooth, lump free paste of the required consistency.
Always dampen the surface (not shiny wet) immediately prior to applying Lime Putty with a spackle tool or steel trowel. This assists with both the curing and adhesion
of the Lime Putty.
Applications to dry surfaces may become powdery.
The surface should always be dampened between coats and at least once a day for the first three days after application.
